MemeWeft — Privacy Policy
MemeWeft is a meme-captioning party game at memeweft.com. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how you can delete it.
What we collect
- Anonymous account ID. Created on your device the first time you open the game. It lets you join rooms and keeps your stats even if you never sign in.
- Google account info — only if you choose to sign in with Google. We store your email address, display name, and profile photo URL. Sign-in is optional.
- Name and avatar. The display name and avatar you pick, shown to the other players in your room.
- Gameplay content — the captions you write, your votes, room chat messages, and the scores for each game, stored in a room that other players join with a code.
- Stats and leaderboard entries. After each finished game we add your votes and wins to an all-time stats record under your account ID. Players signed in with Google appear on the public leaderboard with their name, avatar and totals. Guests are counted privately and never listed.
- On your device. Your name, avatar, sound settings and last room are kept in your browser's local storage.
- Basic technical data passed automatically to Google's Firebase platform: your IP address during connection and your browser type.
We do not collect your phone number, contacts, precise location, or advertising ID. MemeWeft contains no ads. The website counts anonymous page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, stores no personal data, and does not track you across sites.
How we use it
- To run the game: synchronize multiplayer rooms, tally votes, and show stats and the leaderboard.
- To show your display name, avatar, captions and chat messages to other players you share a room with.
- To keep the game safe: to filter offensive words, and to issue warnings or bans when our rules are broken.
Who we share with
- Google Firebase — our backend (Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions). Their handling of your data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and provides Web Analytics. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. To delete your account and its data, email admin@memeweft.com from the address on the account. If you play as a guest, include the name you play under. We process requests within 30 days.
What is deleted when you delete your account:
- Your profile — display name and avatar.
- Your Firebase Authentication account, including any linked Google Sign-In identity.
- Your stats record and leaderboard entry.
What may be retained after deletion:
- Finished rooms. Captions and votes in rooms you played are part of the other players' games. They stay until the room is cleaned up. Room chat is removed automatically after a room sits idle for 24 hours.
- Aggregate, anonymized statistics that contain no personally identifying information.
- Backups. Firebase may keep automated backups of our database for up to 90 days. Deleted account data may persist in those backups until they roll off.
What we keep for safety
If we've warned or banned an account, that record stays after the account is deleted, so the decision can't be wiped by re-registering. To appeal a ban, email admin@memeweft.com.
Children
MemeWeft is rated for players 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we've collected data from a child under 13, email us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can email us to:
- Access a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Export your data.
Changes to this policy
We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we change this policy. Material changes will be called out in-game.
